What is VIP Outpatient Treatment Center’s scope of treatment and services?

The VIP Outpatient Treatment Center’s Scope of Practice combines replacement therapy, which is therapy utilizing medication, with case management, social work, counseling and specialized services conducted in both individual and group settings. When required, patients will be referred to outside practitioners and community resources. VIP Outpatient Treatment Center’s patients are also entitled to take part in educational programs, and are encouraged to participate in support groups that are headed by and made up of their peers.

Is the treatment individualized and customized for each patient?

Yes. Each VIP Outpatient Treatment Center’s patient is assigned to a single caseload manager who is customizing a treatment plan for each patient based on the patient’s conditions and preferences. In addition to medications, patients are also treated for co-occurring conditions in accordance to their needs.

Are patients required to participate in counseling?

Yes. Regulations require that each patient participate in a minimum of 50 minutes of counseling services per month, whether in an individual or group setting. Regulations also require that each caseload manager review and complete a treatment plan with each one of their patients every 90 days, setting both short-term and long-term goals for each patient. Most patients are also referred to voluntary educational programs and support groups.

Does VIP Outpatient Treatment Center protect the confidentiality of its patients?

Yes. Federal and State laws protect the rights of patients in and outside of the clinic. The confidentiality of patients in treatment is protected under HIPAA and the Code of Federal Regulations Section 42 & 45. To meet the above regulatory requirements, VIP Outpatient Treatment center has developed a state of the art corporate compliance policy, as well as HIPAA compliance plan, to ensure that patient confidentiality is protected. By these provisions, the disclosure of the patient's personal information requires the prior written approval of the patient. However, regulations require that VIP Outpatient Treatment Center and its staff members report information related to threats and/or the abuse of minors.

Does VIP Outpatient Treatment Center accept Medi-Cal?

What do you do to make services affordable?

To make its services affordable to patients in financial need, VIP Outpatient Treatment Center has implemented a sliding scale rate system based on the patient’s income and number of dependents. This fee structure is incorporated in the Unified Method to Determine Ability to Pay (“UMDAP”) policy. The qualification for discounted rates requires a detailed evaluation of the individual patient's financial situation.

When and how often do cash patient pay their fees?

Does VIP Outpatient Treatment Center accept minors into treatment?

Yes, between the ages of 12-17.

What are co-occurring conditions?

Co-occurring conditions refer to mental, emotional and/or behavioral conditions that a patient is suffering from, concurrent with their addiction and/or chemical dependency. The most common co-occurring conditions include general anxiety / stress, ADD/ADHD, Grief & Loss, PTSD, depression, etc. Unless treated, such underlying conditions are likely to get worse, and eventually trigger a relapse and put at risk the successful recovery of the patient.

What is dual diagnosis?

The term dual diagnosis refers to a person who is diagnosed with a mental illness, in addition to a substance abuse problem. The term can be used broadly to describe the existence of the above-mentioned co-occurring conditions. For example the term is used to describe an individual who is struggling with depression and alcoholism.

What is the difference between Chemical and Psychological Dependency and Addiction?

Chemical / psychological dependency is used to describe the normal chemical and psychological response to repeated use of addictive substances and/or stimulating activity. Any cessation in the use of drugs or the activity results in withdrawal symptoms. Addiction, on the other hand, describes a situation in which the chemical / psychological dependency cannot be controlled by the individual and it causes the compulsive use of drugs and/or activity, despite the multitude of adverse consequences to the individual. Over time, addicts develop tolerance to the drug (or activity), and therefore need to increase the dose, intensity and frequency of the drug / activity abuse to maintain the same level of satisfaction.

What is PTSD?

PTSD refers to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which is a chronic condition of individuals who have previously experienced serious trauma (e.g., wars, incarceration, crime, etc.).

What are ADD / ADHD?

ADHD is a developmental disorder that presents during childhood, with at least some symptoms causing impairment before the age of seven. It is characterized by developmentally inappropriate levels of inattention and/or hyperactive-impulsive behavior, with significant impairment occurring in at least two settings. Adults with ADHD are diagnosed under the same criteria, including the stipulation that their symptoms must have been present prior to the age of seven. Often, they are given the diagnosis of “ADHD Not Otherwise Specified.”
